Ring Sizes for Wide Bands vs Thin Bands
Two rings can be the same stated size and feel completely different. Band width and profile change how a ring sits on your finger.
Quick answer
Add about a quarter size for a 6 mm band and a half size for 8 mm or wider. Comfort-fit bands run large, so you can often stay at your normal size.

Why wide bands feel tighter
A wide band covers more of the finger, so it has less room to flex over the knuckle and traps more soft tissue underneath. The same inside diameter that feels perfect on a 2 mm band can feel restrictive on an 8 mm one.
How much to size up
- 2–4 mm band: your measured size.
- 5–6 mm band: add a quarter size.
- 7–8 mm band: add a half size.
- 9 mm and wider: add a half to a full size, and try one on if you can.
Comfort fit changes the maths
A comfort-fit band is domed on the inside, so only a narrow strip touches your finger. These slide on more easily and usually fit true to size or slightly large — often a quarter size down from a flat band of the same width.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a bigger size for a wide wedding band?
Usually a quarter to a half size larger than your measured size, unless the band is comfort fit.
Can a wide band be resized?
Yes, but it costs more than a thin band because there is more metal to cut, join and finish.
